Disney Genie: Make the Most of Your Visit

Overview
Genie is a complementary product that aids Disney Parks guests in creating the most ideal itinerary
for their visit based on their interests and parks data (wait times, booked events, etc.).
I was brought on as a summer 2023 intern and received an extension to March 2024. Due to the sensitive nature of current projects, I am unable to publicly share my work on Genie. If you’re interested in hearing more about my work at Disney, please feel free to email me!
Here’s what I’ve learned during my time at Disney:
- Stay flexible! Constraints can change quickly.
- Be ready to adapt your solutions to new challenges. It’s ok to make mistakes! Mistakes are normal and expected. The right team will support your journey to understanding and answer questions. Stay open to feedback.
- No one knows everything! Asking questions is the key to success.
And my most important takeaways so far:
- The technology I am creating as part of the Walt Disney World ecosystem should be a way to enhance a guest’s in-park experience and not be the experience. It’s easy to forget that there’s a world happening around the product I’m creating.
- It’s important to find the sweet spot between using common patterns and creative solutions. Sometimes the most innovative solution isn’t the correct one! And sometimes the most common pattern isn’t the best answer either!
I am so grateful to have taken the first step in my career with such an incredibly supportive team. I’ve loved being able to bounce ideas off of a lot of different people and gaining perspective through critiques and workshops.
